Uh well done for not sending weird shit in the mail or something I guess?

I mean, how do you make something like that sound not-creepy? I'm pretty sure most people who do creepy stuff like stalking or whatever aren't thinking "Oh boy guess I'll go be creepy by standing outside this person's window at night" - like, people who get to that stage usually find a way to justify their actions.
But I guess you wanted people to praise you for not doing a bad thing despite potentially being able to do a bad thing... so uh, well done.

We are all potentially able to do bad things all the time. I know where my ex lives. I could stalk him if I wanted to.

There's no one on earth who isn't potentially able to do bad things, so it's kind of silly to focus on this one really tame thing, when there are always people who could drive their car into a crowd of people and don't, who own sharp kitchen knives and could stab someone and don't. Etcetera.

What OP is doing is a really minor vanilla thought "crime," if it's a crime at all (people's legal residences are a matter of public record, you know, and were even before the internet. Leases and real estate deeds and all that).

So yes, it is in fact good that OP is not causing anyone any harm or even inconvenience with this information. Potential ain't shit - only results matter.

There sure is a whole lot of gray area between committing crimes and just being creepy, isn't there? We're all happy for OP for keeping their creeping legal.

Thought crimes are no crimes at all.

The art of being a decent human being is not in never having Bad Thoughts (nobody who's ever lived meets that criteria) but in not acting on them.

It's not a crime to put your hand in your pants, stick a finger up your butt then and smell it, when you're enjoying dinner in the company of your friends and family. It's not illegal to do this every time you're out with someone either. But if you got in a habit of doing that, you can't really complain that nobody is comfortable going out with you anymore. There's a lot of room between things that are criminal acts, and things that are perfectly normal and ok to do.
