"Does the character's love life involve sex?"

Yes. He canonically has sex and pursues longterm relationships.

Thinking about it... he's at one end of the spectrum of personalities (of a number of likable characters) in the story. So if ficcers want to glom onto someone Large and Huggable, he's It.

(They're, you know, well-written stories. I got no beef with the writers. It was just a little incongruous when I realised it was a thing.)
