I guess the "rival" ship to Estinien/Alphinaud would be Estinien/Aymeric? Which honestly is still a pretty good ship, so I don't mind in in theory-- in practice tho, my god is that a sanctimonious group of assholes who ship it. It's definitely pushed me away from the ship in general, which is sort of a bummer. At least it's opened the door for some rarer Aymeric ships for me?

I bet Estinien/Aymeric are like 'my ship is canon, almost, hence better thsn other ships.'

What's funny about this is that you could probably argue that Estinien/Alphinaud is more canon at this point... Estinien and Aymeric have barely exchanged a word in three expacs lmao.

That said, there certainly is that stink of "my ship is more canon bc x/y/z", which is definitely frustrating because the narrative has been very carefully crafted to not make any ship overtly canon-- they want you to be able to roleplay! So if your WoL is Aymeric's girlfriend, that's just as "canon" as anything else.

NAYRT. Oof yeah. FFXIV kind of has a weird flow though because people get into it at different times and whoever's toward the beginning is probably gonna be on the "Estinien/Aymeric is sooo canon" side even though people who have done the latest content have less to stand on as things go on. It feels like every time a popular artist gets into FFXIV my timeline goes through the whole story with them again. I'm seeing ARR art currently lol.

Of course, another reason I think people are so gung-ho about Estinien/Aymeric "being canon" is because they think declaring this will make us stop shipping Estinien with Alphinaud. But they can't stop me!

I didn't necessarily want to say it, but yeah, that's another big part of it :/ There's the whole "this is the NON-PEDO ship u PEDO" air about it too, which honestly just makes me dig my heels in more because of how silly and wrong that is. There's so much that's so good about Estinien/Alphinaud as a ship, and it just keeps getting better.

Yepppp. I like Estinien/Aymeric too, but I prefer Estinien/Alphinaud and I've been pushed further away from the former by the annoying kinds of people that say ridiculous stuff like that. I just ignore them and they don't even have the decency to ignore me.

It sucks that while I feel Estinien/Alphinaud could be a way bigger ship I understand that people don't want to be harassed for posting fic. At least the actual game keeps giving us great stuff!
