I'll agree that there's no fundamental reason that it couldn't have been good. And actually, parts of it are very good - all the stuff at the university is great.

The problem is once they go into the jungle, it gets mired into this endless runaround of betrayals and escapes and nonsense, and the jungle action scenes are not good.

They burned most of the audience goodwill with that stupid fake looking cgi prairie dog right at the start, you could hear the groans from the entire theater when I saw the movie. That was the fridge goodwill they burned with that. If they needed a prairie dog to set the scene, there was literally no reason not to use a real one. It was cgii for the sake of cgi, and exactly what was talked about in the previous thread.
