I feel you on all of this, but especially music being the exception. I honestly don’t know why I can enjoy listening to depressing music, and even feel happy that old favorites can still make me cry, while hating depressing and tragic stories in every other type of media. When something like a movie or a book makes me cry, I usually hate it, and come away from the experience feeling emotionally manipulated and jerked around, and the work will be tainted as an unpleasant experience for awhile. I do sometimes come around to the experience and realize I liked the work, just that I never want to watch/read/play it again.

But again, music is the exception, because I absolutely will keep coming back and enjoying these songs, and enjoying having the songs make me feel these emotions. Even though they may be just as emotionally manipulative. Idk why this is the case for me.
