What is this show... about?

I think this doesn't spoil anything not in the trailer

A spy has to get a family to infiltrate into the only social events a paranoid, far-right leader in the enemy country (who is trying to restart war with them) goes to, which are events at an elite academy. So he needs a wife and kid. And he can't use another agent as a wife because there's a massive spy scare in that country right now (it's equivalent to the 1950s/1960s and west vs eat germany).

So he adopts a kid.

Who turns out to be a telepath.

He doesn't know she is.

But she knows he's a spy.

Also, the wife has secrets

Hilarity happens

To give the secret a little more context, Yuri is the wife’s brother. He’s creepily obsessed with her and jealous of anyone else who’s close to her, up to and including her adopted daughter.

He's not portrayed as a good guy in the least. He's portrayed as gross.

This is getting into headcanon territory, but my personal reading of Yuri is that he sees everything in black and white. His sister is pure and innocent, so anyone who might come into contact with her is impure and unworthy. (He doesn’t know the first thing about her.) His government is good, so anyone who might oppose his government is a villain. (His sister’s husband is trying to save lives on both sides.) He’s not completely inflexible within the bounds of that worldview, but the worldview itself is unshakeable.

That's not the plot of the series at all though. If that's something you don't want to see then fine, but don't think the person who rec'd it to you was doing it because of that.
