You sound like one of those teachers who ignore bullies and then send their victim to the principal's office once they've snapped and had enough.

There's a difference between taking the high road with a random asshole and snapping under the weight of prolonged, targeted abuse.

I agree with other commenters that situations are complicated and messy but "why did you push back against your abuser?" is not it.
