If you don't know about anime or manga, why would you care about Sakuracon? There are other events in Seattle to go to that might be more up your alley. Or you have a VAGUE interest in anime and manga, no one is going to turn you away, in fact they'd probably be delighted to explain their favorites to you. You can go to watch the cosplayers or hang out in the video game room. Theres a LOT of gamers there.

Most of the conventions I go to, I don't understand half the things there, because I'm not into the mainstream series like Naruto or Bleach. I go for the atmosphere.

What are you looking to get out of it? Something deep? Probably won't find much of that at a con, really. Just go for fun, or go to check it out if you're curious. Maybe you'll like what you find and want to become more invested in it.

I'm pretty heavily into anime and manga, but I'm only going to buy pointless merchandise that I'll want to get rid of in three years or so and take a buttload of cosplay photos, whether I know the characters/series or not, just because they look cool.

I am also not really a big Anime fan. But when my brother took me to Anime Boston however many years ago, it was fantastic. It might just be because I live in Vermont and no one around here plays video games, but it was awesome just being around fellow nerdy people for a change. Plus, you can go to screenings for different anime and maybe find something you like. I'm sure you'll find something worth doing when you go there; the only issue is if you think it'll be worth the price of admission.
