Indeed. I thought it was below me after the first episode, but a friend forced me to watch more. As a history nerd, I find their take on things to be kinda funny, more so than the moe and the BL. Besides, Russia is not-so-secretly insane and that warms my heart more than I care to admit.

I came for the gay, found out it wasn't that gay in the first place and stayed for the history tidbits and lulz.

There was very recently a post in the comm (See the Lietvus scanlation) where people were asked why they loved Hetalia. Pretty much the majority said the same thing as you (Lol, BL wasn't really mentioned)
