154. You know, there’s nothing wrong with letting a book, TV show, movie, whatever, change your life. There really isn’t. I don’t know why so many people feel the need to disclaim these kinds of statements the way you did. Watchmen changed the way I thought too. So have a lot of other books, and TV shows, and movies, and fandom in general. Who cares what prompts you to grow intellectually, as long as you do?

I agree with what you said, but also with the person above me. Just because it's a book, tv show, movie, whatever, it doesn't mean that it's any less intellectually stimulating unless it's that twilight or gossip girl nonsense. Watchmen and Battlestar Galactica were both extremely influential to my growth also. And I admit it.

Ugh, I know exactly how you feel. My best friend HATES the Harry Potter series, she's never even read the books or seen the movies, and those are the books that inspired me to become a writer. It pisses me off so much because she's never even given them a chance! The same thing goes for pretty much any classic literature I read, she's never even read it and she hates it. You are so not alone OP. And no, you're not crazy for letting literature affect you this much (but then again this is coming from a Lit major whose entire life has basically revolved around literature)

There's nothing lame about saying that a work of fiction changed your life. I can say without shame or embarrassment that I truly believe The Matrix changed my life. Not a conventional choice, but hey, it is what it is to me. And yeah, I'm guilty of irrationally defending it to the depths because of what it means to me. But I think that's part of what makes getting involved in a story so wonderful :)
