I seriously don't get this "omg no build up whatsoever!!!!!1" argument, can someone explain it to me?

Have I just been watching too much old gundam where people fall in love in one episode and spend four series mourning someone they met for five minutes, or what? Or are people still confused about the timeskip for the Lyle/Anew bit?

While I think Lyle and Anew were pretty lolz-worthy, what I was really thinking of was the Marina+Setsuna anvils when they had exchanged maybe ten minutes total of conversation before the kids wanted to them to get all kissy-faced. Also, romance aside, the episode they first met.

Then you have Marie and Al, which...I still don't quite understand how you can be kissing one another's faces off when last time you saw one another, one was in a coma and both of you were like, five years old.

Lol, well, that makes sense. I'm so tired of everyone bitching about Lyle and Anew when half of the complaints I've heard don't seem to even take the timeskip (poorly handled as it was) into account.

I didn't think Setsuna and Marina were supposed to be terribly romantic, really. She's kind of a mother figure to him, and while I guess they're technically a canon ship, it's not like they're boinking or dating or anything that we've seen. I don't see it as them actually hooking up without some stuff seriously changing after the show.

I can sympathize with the annoyance at the pointless bitching. I don't argue that the romance could have developed over the time skip. My issue with Lyle/Anew is I felt no chemistry between them whatsoever, and then bam, time skip with a few flashes of pretty pictures right before she dies is supposed to make me emotionally invested in them. It just didn't do it for me. I am honestly jealous of the people who were able to get into it and enjoy it - I like a good romance. It is unfortunate to me that they did not have time to show them together a bit more. But for those it worked for, hey, more power to ya.
