I mean yeah but my issue is when she tries to write other countries and doesn't bother to even fact check or seek assistance in writing cultures

Oh, yes, totally, that's an issue. I only meant that her writing a lot about Britain wasn't weird. When she branched out into other countries she should have done her research or not written it.

Yeah I honestly would respect a "I'm sorry I don't feel like I can do it justice but you're free to!" Over just doing it without caring about sensitivity

She's clearly a devotee of Blyton, but Blyton was writing in an era that she didn't have to worry about catering to the indigenous cultures of the places she was writing in and writing about those places to an English home market who didn't care about veracity either. Moving with the times has never been Joanne's strong suit though.

No it has not.

If you're referencing Harry Potter, it was a completely different publishing landscape when it came out. People didn't pay attention to this stuff like at all.

That's a fair point about something like Goblet Of Fire, maybe. But a lot of the stuff that deals with the wizarding world outside Britain has been coming out after the end of the main series, so I'm not sure that the timeline totally works out there.

That's a myth that mostly gets pushed by the most myopic members of JKR's fanbase. By the year 2000, a decent portion of the fanbase was already wincing a little at the portrayal of anyone not both English and white. It spawned reams of meta.

With that said, I'm pretty sure AYRT is specifically taking issue with Jo's foray into Native American culture. It was not good.
