But that’s literally just another form of entertainment. It’s not always “spouting crap” either. Nobody is making anyone pay for these vlogs, because things like Patreon aren’t mandatory. Whereas you have to pay for the book you want to read to read it, and you have to pay the artist to get the art you commissioned. So in that way, comparing content creators like vloggers and who put out mostly free content to artists or authors who put out content that you understandably have to pay to get isn’t the best comparison ayrt could have made. People pay content creators like vloggers because they like their stuff, and it’s a completely voluntary process. Sure, there are some people who have Patreon exclusive content, but that’s more like a DVD extra, because the main content is still free. So framing things like Patreon as worse or scummier than paying for things like books is so weird to me. Like, I wouldn’t financially supports vloggers because I don’t like or watch vlogs. Not because I think there’s anything wrong with vlogs or giving them money through avenues like Patreon.
