Finally got a mail about a job I interviewed for. Didn't work out but I expected it. Still sucks.
Also I feel sick because the siphon under the bathroom sink is leaking and it smells terrible but I can't do anything about it until tomorrow. Tried to get rid of the smell with baking soda an vinegar before finding out it leaks so now it smells like puke on top of dirty drains. And speaking of bad smells, stinkhorn season is upon us and damn, it's even worse than the dirty drains smell. I don't want the smell of rotting corpses in my garden.
Have I mentioned my main migraine trigger is strong smells? Yeah. I'm having fun.

What the fuck is stinkhorn season and why are there rotting corpses in your garden!?!?

I think something might have died behind my shed over the winter and it's all I can smell right now when I go over there. (I'm assume that's what stinkhorn season is??)
I've cleared it out as best I can but I haven't found anything which I'm both relieved and worried about. I think it might be in the rain barrel cause while the water always smells a bit funky from the leaves that filter through, it's right beside the shed so I get both smells at once and, ugh, it's so bad.

I feel for you cause it's all I can smell for hours after I tend the plants it feels like, and if I'd have to deal with a broken sink on top of that- idk, I'd honestly invest in a full up gas mask tbh;;
Good luck with your sink tomorrow! (and hopefully those corpses don't stink too badly this year?) <3

Stinkhorns, or phallus impudicus (yes you read that right) is a mushroom. Looks a bit like a regular morel only with a slimy dark green/black head. They smell overwhelmingly like rotting carcasses.

They are almost impossible to get rid of, the only thing you can do is try to find them while they're still in bulb form and non-smelly and try to dig them up so they don't grow. They do grow very fast (few hours) and just love gardens with lots of old rotting wood and stuff. They grow as soon as it's slightly warmer. Our garden probably got infested through our neighbour getting bark mulch in his garden, spores can stick to that. It's very unpleasant.

So if you see some white round bulbs or suspicious mushrooms around your shed, that might be it. They might look slightly different depending on the area, there are different types of stinkhorns.

Whenever someone mentions stinkhorns I'm reminded of one of zefrank's true facts videos:

(spoiler: if you're unfamiliar with zefrank, a percentage of facts within the video may not actually be true. See his TrueFactsEducational channel for a better chance of getting full facts)

Yeah no, that's pretty accurate. Where I live, the things are also called corpse fingers. I think zombie dicks would be more accurate but oh well.
