I really hate when people say that too. The only time they’re right that there’s no tension is if the story really does seem to hinge on the viewer wondering what could happen next in a prequel, when they would already know from the work it’s a prequel to. Otherwise, the prequel can still have plenty of tension and stakes from other aspects, like you said.
