That’s true, and I was aware of that. But not all of the ladies have to have agreed with being called “ex-wives”, because that’s not what the song is about. They’re describing themselves that way in a figurative sense, as in wives that are no longer. Not because they’re all agreeing they’re ex-wives in the divorce sense. As the anon below said, Jane Seymour wouldn’t have called herself that either, because she died, she didn’t divorce. And Catherine Parr also wouldn’t have because Henry died, but they didn’t divorce. And that’s not even talking about Anne Bolelyn and Katherine Howard, who were executed rather than divorced. The song isn’t meant to be taken this seriously or literally, it’s tongue in cheek like the rest of the play. It’s still fine to be bothered by it, I’m not saying your secret is bad or wrong just because it’s just a silly song. I may not agree with the secret, and am a biased source either way as a big fan of the musical, but it’s completely valid to feel the way you do.
