So many of my faves have turned out to be beyond problematic like this. I have to ask, am I also a shitty person? What is broken in me that I keep finding myself in fandoms for things built by assholes?

I mean it's not like you or anyone else has psychic powers to know that a creator is terrible when they haven't broadcast that fact. Trust me, as a former fan of Marion Zimmer Bradley, the feelings of betrayal and disgust are real, but it's not our fault that creativity sometimes finds itself a home in a garbage human.

TBH I kinda disagree with this, it's absolutely possible to be a shitty writer and not a shitty person, or vice versa.

In this case, obviously they were both. But they aren't always.

Everything you said is true. I still enjoyed these books when I read them. Not sure if I'm going to reread ever or not. Fuck this shitty author.

I don't see the correlation. If writing female characters in a bad and kind of creepy way was a telltale sign of being a child abuser, that would make "male author" and "child abuser" practically synonymous.

I think Eddings' work was okay for Baby's First Quest Fantasy and I enjoyed it when I was a pre-teen... though yeah, some parts did make even pre-teen me raise an eyebrow. But I've got no interest in rereading them as an adult and I don't think they'd stand the test of time forme.
