What are you reading?

(Anonymous) 2022-06-29 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Or what books have you read or are looking forward to reading?

No books, only a shameful amount of BL manga.

No shame in that. What are your favorites?

Yeah, agreed, except when you're supposed to use your free week to, you know, clean and fix things in your house... and end up binge-reading manga instead. That's shameful.

Uh, I re-read one of my faves recently (that's Yozora no Sumikko de) and that's what made me go on this lovesick reading spree. I LOVE Yozora no Sumikko de. The ones I read this week so far were good, but not THAT good IMO.

Lost Souls by Poppy Brite. I feel it.... I feel Halloween in the air even though it's only June... my tastes in media grow bloodier with each passing day. <3

I've been reading a ton of horror anthologies lately so I'm here for early Haloween.

Two things: a book on Medieval Russia and Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy.

A new ebook put out by Captivating History. It is decent though short.

The celluloid closet by Vito Russo. Great book about gay cinema history. needs an update but unfortunately the author died, however, essential reading for anybody interested in GLBT rights and movies.

I've been meaning to read more nonfiction and that sounds interesting. I'm adding it to my list.

I finally re-picked up Way of the Shadows.

One started, hundreds to go...

For a moment I thought you meant there are hundreds of books in that series.

I am reading Waking The Moon by Elizabeth Hand, and I'm liking it a lot so far (about 1/3 of the way in). So far it's basically about a group of friends at college in the 1990s where there's also an occult conspiracy going on and all kinds of dark magic and forgotten gods; it's very well-written, very cool, lots of horror and contemporary fantasy stuff. It's well-done.

I wish I still had the attention span to read a full book

You could try short stories?

Audio books have helped me, I can't focus on reading but I can listen while I zone out to cell phone games.

The Black Count: Glory, Revolution, Betrayal, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo by Tom Reiss

It's been on my list since the Haiti season of Revolutions podcast. It's all about General Alex Dumas, the father of the author Alexander Dumas but the first bit is also about the author's struggle in finding sources on his life. It's been cool thus far.

The Undomestic Goddess. It’s one of my comfort books.

Killing for Company by Brian Masters (about Dennis Nilsen. Just watched the show about him 'Des' with David Tennant as Dennis)

I'm reading "Hood Feminism" by Mikki Kendall. I'm not from the USA or any other English speaking country, so a lot of issue issues like gun violence and the specifics of Black Women in the USA don't directly relate to me. And I'm reading it precisely BECAUSE those issue are not related to me. It's very eye opening.

If someone has some good text about Feminism to suggest, pretty please!
