I'm the one woobifying your fandom's genocidal maniac because he's hot and sad, because being hot and sad is enough of a reason for me to love you as long you're not real and haven't hurt or killed anyone real. Fiction is fun that way!

Very true. Although, personally, I think villains being evil makes them more interesting, and hot, evil villains are way more fun than woobie ones. But to each their own. Fiction is fiction.

I like evil villains who are just evil, too, as long as it's not the boring kind of evil where all they do is murder puppies and torture kittens and set fire to old folks homes. Go on and be an evil madman who wants to take over the world, just leave the puppies and kittens and grandmas alone!!

I like a mix. Though I think my faves are the ones whose origin is sympathetic, but who've taken a flying leap off of the slippery slope and may no longer even be holding on to their self-justifications.
