All good therapists have past trauma of their own; it's what gives them empathy, insight, and concrete solutions as opposed to the abstract ones they learn through textbooks. To fix a broken person and not just slap a band-aid over them, you have to be a little broken yourself to understand that a band-aid won't do shit for a gaping wound.
