I'm on the fence about watching it because honestly I don't care about a teenager lol. I have heard good things about it though. I just don't know if I could sit through 'teen angst growing pains'.

Same, same.

Also trailer was really bad and I am cautious

So much same.

To paraphrase some ancient Greek "Call no MCU show quality until it is done."

Because yeah, I've been enjoying its energy and its cinematography and it's characters but I still expect it to faceplate at the finish line.

+1

At this point, I'd be shocked if an MCU show *didn't* abandon all of its conceptual and character themes to instead just unleash a massive CGI beams & explosions battlescape as its finale

It doesn't matter if they don't stick the landing, because what they have done so far more than justifies the title of Best MCU tv-show already.

The trip to Pakistan in the most recent episode was just awesome, and I loved getting to know Kamala's mum's relationship with her mother a little more too. I do miss Kamala's dad though. He is the best MCU dad so far.

THIS.

I'm part of a completely different minority group (well... I guess a set of intersecting minority groups, but still, none of them are the same as Kamala), and didn't anticipate how emotional I would get seeing them handle her family's background with weight and respect.

Yep, I enjoyed WandaVision up to the last episode, enjoyed Moon Knight the whole way through (but it still wasn't a GREAT ending) and so far Ms Marvel is top 3 for me...but it's not finished. (Loki was shit except for Episode 5 though.)

I can't get into it somehow? I love the characters, especially the family. I also enjoy what we see of her community. But I don't care that much about her origin story and the mystery? The latest episode had an interesting ending, so it might get better.

It might also be personal. Like someone up-thread I had trouble caring about a teenager's woes, fortunately the show moved on pretty quickly. Might also be that it started airing when Kenobi was on, on the same day. And I've been a fan of that character since I was Kamala's age.

I'm enjoying the show and it's objectively very good, but it's not my personal favorite.

I loved this one from day 1. It skews a bit young for me, but most of the time it does not bother me. The characters are so lovable and well-written, though.

I love everything about it. I was kinda checked out of the MCU but felt I had to watch it because I loved the comics. And they're doing it perfect imo. Even though I don't really watch much teen-oriented TV, it's so engaging and vibrant and joyful. And I could just as easily watch an entire show of scenes with Kamala's family and friends being domestic or an entire show of action sequences that genuinely use their location in interesting ways, but then the show delivers both.

It's not bad, but it's pretty meh for me. I find Kamala herself a bit annoying and tiresome, which is probably the main issue for me. She is SO believably a teenager, which could definitely be applauded as good writing, but I guess I don't necessarily want a lead who is that authentically a teenager.

Also, the very basic, Point A to Point B wish fulfillment of her longing to be special and then "Oh hey, she IS special!" is just not a dynamic I find interesting or engaging. Especially since the character is otherwise so unremarkable; she doesn't really DO anything interesting, anything that any average person wouldn't do, until way after she's gotten her powers, which is my least favorite type of protagonist. The wish fulfillment aspects of the show are just way too basic and right on the surface for me. And I think they're doing the whole "Character realizes they had a simplistic concept of what being special would entail and then has to grown up and take on the responsibility of the thing they naively thought would be all fun and coolness" arc, but that also doesn't really interest me. So...yeah.

It's genuinely not bad so far, it's just not doing anything for me personally. *shrug*

It's kinda of annoying that a lot of Marvel related stuff coming out recently I would have been interested in some years ago but now I'm just so burned out on Marvel content that I can't muster any interest in the new stuff. I just can't be bothered anymore.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-04 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeaaah, that's it for me.

Same here. I canceled D+ and haven't regretted it at all.
