Call the Midwife. Oh, I just love that. It is perfect.

And Simon and the Witch. Ah, the magical magic shows we had pre-Terfling.

Good call

That's a tough one. Lord of the Rings is probably the objectively correct answer. Maybe the Wimsey detective novels? I just think they're so well-written and full of character and verve. Not necessarily the greatest mysteries of all time, but that's not the main reason to love them. Pterry is also right up there.

HMs - Wodehouse, The Lady Vanishes, Get Carter, The Italian Job, Fourth and Seventh Doctor-era Doctor Who, Barry Lyndon, Spaced, Taskmaster, the poems of William Blake, Michael Moorcock's Elric and Jerry Cornelius books, Iain Banks' Culture novels, everything Alan Moore every wrote, a bunch of spy novels, To The Lighthouse, Gormenghast, the Campion books, Horatio Hornblower. Sure I'm still forgetting a bunch of stuff as well.

All of the panel shows. Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You, Would I lie to you, 9 out of 10 cats 8 (& does Countdown), etc. I know that people have Opionions (tm) about the quality of those shows going down since X years, but I still love watching them.

The very best British show for me is probably Taskmaster, though. Consistently amazing and hilarious.

Books: Athur Conan Doyle, P.G. Wodehouse, Jane Austen, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams

TV: BlackAdder, Keeping Up Appearances, Father Ted, Absolutely Fabulous, Great British Bake Off, Taskmaster, QI, Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse, Endeavour, Unforgotten, New Tricks, Foyle's War, (almost any British mystery based show, really)

Just want to respectfully point out that Father Ted is an Irish show. British and Irish senses of humour have a lot of crossover :)

NAYRT

It's a tricky one because it was made for and originally aired on a British channel / produced by a British production company? And I feel like that's usually the decisive factor. But clearly all of the creative talent was Irish.

I thought Ireland had collectively abdicated responsibility for pretty much everything Glinner has touched, nobody wants to be associated with him.

That definitely blurs the lines, but personally the fact that all of the creative talent was Irish makes it Irish to me. Funding aside. I see where you're coming from though.

Last of the Summer Wine, Waiting for God, Grenada Holmes, Fingerbobs, The Young Ones, and This is England.

For contemporary literature it’s probably the Chronicles of St Mary’s.
