I DO like them, but I absolutely understand and know what you mean. It's not for everyone.

I don't really pay that much attention to reviews. I mostly just want to enjoy myself at a movie. Sometimes that is with well-reviewed movies, sometimes it isn't.

We have opposite problems. I find most shows that aren't critically praised (or at least respected) to be tiresome and annoying--not because I'm intent on being snooty but just...because. I just do. I wish I could get into more light and breezy stuff, because I crave fun and escapism as much as anyone, but I usually can't. I usually just end up annoyed and wanting my hour back.

There are shows I love that are fairly light. I just wish there were a whole lot more of them.

Same!
I often try to get into lighter stuff, but it doesn't provide escapism, only annoyance.
And still some topics are too heavy for me and I can't watch them. So I need to find this balance in finding what to watch. Argh

I don't think I've ever actually read a movie review before seeing a movie, with the purpose of deciding if i'll see it or not. I've only ever read them to either get some vicarious joy out of a 'respected' reviewer loving something i loved, or trying to figure out why same hated something i loved (or vise-versa).

I have read reviews to help me decide if I want to see sonethinbg, but most of the time I am like you. Also if I hated something I enjoy reading bad reviews of it. I am a bad person.

Same here. It calms my irritation at having wasted x minutes\hours of my life.

HA, well....
I feel very vindicated reading a 'this movie sucked balls' review when that was my reaction. For instance...that movie 'A Quiet Place'? Dear gods. Loathed. It was quite soothing to read how many other people loathed it, too. :D
