i'm shocked someone saw the movie

(Anonymous) 2022-07-09 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? It's a fun movie, with a cute story. I liked it a lot.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-09 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Cute story? The story was weirdly dour and overwrought for something that, in-universe, is supposed to be a made-for-kids movie in the 90s.

ayrt

Lightyear isn't Toy Story Buzz, and if you think he was, then you have really misunderstood what they were trying to do with this movie. Also, you must not be very familiar with made-for-kids movies in the '90s if you7 think they were all sweetness and light.

Who said anything about Buzz? Lightyear is canonically supposed to be a movie that exists in the TS universe that Andy saw in the 90s. Can’t see something like this inspire the massive toy line in universe, more likely to end up on Buzzfeed’s 10 Weird and Creepy Movies From Your Childhood You Forgot Existed in 2017.

because it bombed?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-09 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It was okay.

But... I agree with his VA - there is no Buzz without Woody!

(Anonymous) 2022-07-09 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
But 'Lightyear' Buzz isn't 'Toy Story' Buzz-- he's the character Buzz believes himself to be *before* all his own character development. So I can see shipping 'Lightyear' Buzz/wanting him to have a family, while still feeling that Woody and the other toys ARE 'Toy Story' Buzz' family.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-09 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT, yeah but OP talked about having a family of their own. Hence my reply.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-10 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly!

(Anonymous) 2022-07-09 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Lightyear Buzz and toy Story Buzz are not the same Buzz, so why is this even an issue?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-10 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Because if you’re going to cash in on nostalgia, might as well go for broke or risk your cynical corporate exercise in film-making getting stomped at the box office by someone who did it better (ie Jurassic World).

The whole film was about not letting nostalgia turn you into a moron tho.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-09 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I downloaded a cam.
Got bored.
Stopped watching.

The "You're mocking me, aren't you?" line took me right the fuck out of it.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-10 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
What was the context?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-10 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
His partner says something, Buzz says "You're mocking me, aren't you" in the exact cadence and inflections as in the movie like it's Buzz's catchphrase or something, as opposed to "To Infinity and Beyond" and it reeked of "CALL BACK! CALL BACK! DID YOU NOTICE THE CALLBACK?! 'MEMBER??!?"

(Anonymous) 2022-07-10 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Same Anon.

The Movie = Toy Story. Sorry if that sounded unclear.

I watched it and enjoyed it! I didn't believe for a second that it was meant to be a 90's movie for kids tho. I just kind of ignore that part.

Yes! A Lightyear secret! I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw this movie.
