Well yeah, pretty much everything to do with the Comedian is meant to piss people off - he just got away with so much because he was a hero. And Veidt's master plan does really suck in the end - even Dr. Manhattan pointed that out, and it's part of why Rorschach wouldn't have anything to do with it. You totally got it, you just don't get that you got it.

I go the impression that the OP only saw the movie. Which means they didn't explicitly see Doctor Manhattan say the plan sucked like in the movie. Instead they gave the line to Laurie which loses most of it's impact because the line isn't delivered to Adrian.
