This recent trend of secrets about how villains are portrayed in the media and how that corresponds to real life bad guys has been... special. Like, it's not completely without a valid point and I love Mel Brooks. But this argument overreaches massively. Trump is and has been a joke for quite some time (The terrible comb-over? His inability to string together coherent sentences that demonstrate an adequate grasp of... well, anything? His general appearance? Grab 'em by the pussy? The golden shower tapes?), and it hasn't helped because his demographic either doesn't get it, doesn't care, or finds those things laudable rather than risible.

Even if Hollywood went right back to portraying villains as awful, mock-worthy villains, it's not gonna fix things, OP. I doubt it'd even have a significant impact.

Exactly what people predicted would happen is now happening. Doctors are now refusing to treat women whose lives are in danger out of fear of getting in trouble under the new law. Don't ever fucking call yourself "pro-life" if the lives of women don't matter to you.

What I don't understand is why people are shocked by any of this. The Republicans have made it very clear for ages that they want to eliminate abortion and now they're doing exactly what they've been saying they were going to do for years. It's not like this is something that came out of left field, it's been a major tenet of their platform for a long time.

Why any woman would vote Republican ever is something I just can't grasp.
