Of all these the only I watched was Maid Dragon and I fail to see how it's objectionable in any way. Then again, they changed Kuma Miko's last episode because of haters, which... honestly... crazy. People are too sensitive nowadays and object to fairly STUPID things.

The thing people object to in Dragon Maid is only in the 2nd season, where a loli character with huge boobs joins the cast.

No, they were pretty steamed about the onee-shota overtones with Lucoa too. Though it did pale in comparison to the Iruru backdraft.

Yeah, I straight-up dropped Dragon Maid because of the shota bullshit.

What is the issue with these shows?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-19 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen any of them, and I vaguely heard of the dragon maid one -- what's the issue?

Dragon Maid and Wataten both fall into the “child molesters are okay if they’re women” trope. (See also: Uzamaid.) A lot of stupid people think Uzaki has a “childlike” face and big boobs, so therefore she’s pedobait, because obviously what pedophiles want is big boobs! I don’t know the last one.

Honestly, I hesitate to call Miyako a "child molester" (definitely nowhere near Uzamaid levels), primarily because she's just too awkward and socially inept to be a real threat. The most she can manage is being weird and off-putting.

Eh, I remember being an 11-year-old with big boobs and got a lot of very unpleasant male attention, especially in my school uniform. There's definitely a set of pedophiles who like "very young girl with adult figure". I wouldn't count it if the character isn't actually a child, though.

In order:
1) Above-mentioned onee-shota's overtones, also Ilulu's body proportions
2) Protagonist's body proportions
3) Protagonist's lolicon tendencies
4) Allegedly romanticizes crunch culture according to a Youtuber

Body proportions and comic relief lolicon characters are an issue now? Man those people wouldn't have survived the 90s-10s

Oh yikes

Of the three of these I recognize, one isn’t even problematic, and two are saccharine problematic where consequences don’t exist. I’m curious what you’d make of something like Happy Sugar Life that’s fucked-up-on-purpose problematic.

Bonus rec: I’ve heard that If It’s For My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord is saccharine problematic.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-20 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Specifically, I've heard the Demon Lord one pulls a Bunny Drop.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-20 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but I keep reading "Bunny Drop" and I forget that's what Usagi Drop is called now, and it's the worst name. Bunny Drop? Like bunny feces? It makes the story and ending sound even worse

(Anonymous) 2022-07-20 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a literal translation. The meaning didn't change.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-20 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
When has ドロップ ever referred to feces?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-20 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I feel the same here OP - I like trashy anime and seen stuff that would apparently make me the devil of the lowest level if 'you are what you watch' was a solid framework for moral standards.

*takes note of the ones I haven't seen on there to watch later*

(Anonymous) 2022-07-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'd just like to say that "it makes the disk horses nicker and whinny" is a wonderfully evocative phrase and I am adding to my lexicon!

Thank you!
