I'm not in the fandom but isn't Midoriya/Bakugo like in the top five most popular M/M anime ships on social media? I wouldn't worry about being into them, a sizable portion of the internet is too apparently.

Well, you ship Bakugo with anyone and it's gonna be toxic (this relationship in particular).

But there's a lot of characters with issues. And I say this as someone who ships OC/reader with Endeavour, among others. And he's only on the road to redemption in some fics. SOME. but sometimes I want the problematic fire daddy, and sometimes I want his stapled up son, also problematic.

When I was in the fandom, Bakugou got functional ships sometimes with that iron-skinned dude, I forget the name. (The one who wasn’t Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu.)

I don’t necessarily think it HAS to be toxic - Bakugo would benefit from therapy for sure but I think he’s on the right path & I give him a lot of leeway for being a teenager…

It’s just that when it is toxic, I do not mind lol

Oh, for sure! The only time I read Bakugo ships, he's already aged up, a pro hero for some years etc. And at that point he's either mellowed out but still an asshole sort of (if we're doing the growth as a person arc), or we're going full on explosive/mean personality/I am number one and whoever is the love interest is going to have to deal with that (or be dealt with? To sexy results?). I don't mind when it's toxic either -- sometimes that's the mood!

I think it's fair to give him leeway as character that's young and capable of change and maturity. One of my favorite FICA of him has him growing and changing (like he had already calmed down, but when he meets new character, his relationship with them continues in changing him, and his friends see that). That one is sweet. Many others...lol are not. But for the most part, I find most people write him as a prickly cactus with a soft center, like he's actually not that bad...just misunderstood/in need of some therapy. But aren't they all? Lol

token teenager of the FS community here: I dont know jack shit about MHA but as a problematic shipper myself whose been into weird shit since I was 11, I keep writing my Diavolo x Trish Una fics with pride just to spite people like this.

Can't wait to be a cool 40 year old in fandom, hopefully this ridiculous trend is over by then

I mean, I wouldn't read it - Not My Kink - but I can see why people would ship it. Toxic or not, the manga's spent far more time going into the Why. Why Deku admired Bakugo even though Bakugo was straight up telling him to kill himself and making him miserable at every turn. Why Bakugo would be so consistently mean and cruel to Deku even while secretly admiring him or thinking of Deku as 'better'. The manga's spent a lot more time on that than any of the more 'positive' relationships. It's even held up the rivalry as being The Thing that makes both of them better heroes. So...yeah. Why not ship it?
