The only thing I remember from that season is Yami Yugi going absolutely apeshit on Weevil and it was glorious.

Doma is my favorite season too. The character development is way better than anything Takahaki (RIP) himself put in the manga, the entire plotline basically became 5Ds a few years later (motorcycle gangs and ancient mythology), and 100000000% everything Atem and Yugi was a puzzleshipper's dream comme true. plus we get warshipping! (Kaiba and Alastair/Amelda who is a far better foil for Kaiba than anyone else was or will be)

the concept is batshit but in a series which gave us Zorc's dragonpenis, batshit is sort of to be expected. and, now that I've been watching the original Japanese on crunchyroll, I have to admit the dub actually did better with Dartz. his snark is so fucking on point.

My wife and I have been rewatching a bunch of Yugioh over the last few months in a weird "whatever arcs we feel like watching at the moment" order, and I gotta say that I agree with you on the fact that the Atem content is really good in this arc. There's bits that kind of drag, but when watched on its own so that my mind isn't going "UGHHHH WHEN DO WE GET TO MILLENIUM WORLDDDDDD," I really do enjoy this arc. It's nice to see Atem break and mourn and grow, and I think it makes for an interesting parallel with the way that then Yugi has to grow and let go of Atem at the end of the series. I wouldn't say it's my fav, but my most recent rewatch definitely made me warm up to it and appreciate it a lot more than I had before.
