I'm sure there is something to her style in terms of plotting. But the way she writes characters is really bad, IMHO. She picks a historical figure she loves and then writes everyone around them just to make the character she's picked look the best possible and anyone else look worse. And usually she's picking one woman while vilifying all the other women around that one.

Yes, it's the My Character Is Perfect Everyone Else Is A Jealous Bitch syndrome. Sometimes she has characters doing the exact same thing (like the Boleyn sisters being mistresses) but when her fave does it it's great and when another woman does it she's evil and terrible and slutty.

This is such a common thing for historical writers to do - you also see it all the time in alt-history. And it's honestly just so funny to me, like, these people have been dead for hundreds of years! You don't need to make them super-perfect greatest human being of alltime! It's the easiest thing in the world to admit they had flaws!
