As a Weegie, my advice on places to not go is just Edinburgh. If you must go, then make sure you take plenty of money and have a high tolerance for tartan bedecked bullshit.

It's cute when people who are from outside the U.S. warn people about overrated tourist spots. My friend, Americans have that shit on steroids. I'm not sure anything the UK has can top our tourist traps and the ridiculous amount of gift shop garbage that's attached to much, much smaller attractions.

Okay but as a first time visitor, their perspective is likely different from yours. Sometimes the touristy things are fun for people who are tourists. I've been all over Europe and I don't personally think Edinburgh is worse than any other famous European city.

On the contrary, I think Edinburgh is a very pretty and very chill city in comparison. And nobody makes you buy souvenirs.
