I could’ve written this comment almost exactly! Though I guess people have also always read undertones into classic Doctors/companions as well. It’s just the writers weren’t going that way so it wasn’t in your face. I think that’s why some older fans found School Reunion so jarring and claimed Sarah Jane wasn’t the same character.

I edited the parts I found felt OOC for Sarah Jane out of my brain! I love that episode so much.

I love that episode too. It was nice to have her back even if the switch up in characterisation was weird. But it was pure nostalgia fuel right down to bringing back K9 and I didn’t mind that.
