What fandoms do you think have the most interesting, well-written, complex, or fun characters?

It's definitely not the "most" of any of those, but lately I've found myself missing Due South. I'd want a reboot, but given the trend in tv these days no one would do it justice.

Gotta be Babylon 5. Huge range of characters and character types, and nearly all of them are great.

Yes! So many great ones.

That's actually incredibly subjective, because in my experience the best characters in fandom are the ones with the most unexplored potential - which isn't necessarily what you get from canonically well written characters.

With that in mind, I'd have to say Aziraphale and Crowley, purely for the millennia of unexplored story between them.

That's something I love too. I love it when we have interesting characters, but I also really love it when there is a lot of unexplored potential. When canon gives you enough to work with that you can extrapolate but enough room to work with that there is a lot of room for exploring.

Are we talking about the canon characters, or what fandom does with them? Because often some of the most interesting fanon characters are really not particularly interesting in canon.

The Hercules/Xena fandom. Not because either show's characters are particularly interesting, well-written, or complex but they are fun and they are all very good looking. The Zoolander of TV shows, if you will.

The cast of Oz on the hand is interesting, well-written, and complex. But only a few of the actors are hot. Lol.

my mom loved these series as a kid and i was watching along sometimes and i kind of wanna watch xena again as an adult but i am afraid it wont hold to the nostalgia goggles :(

Ever since the second season of Tiger & Bunny came out and I watched season 1 in preparation first, I've really been kind of blown away by how absolutely endearing the characters are. They start out seeming like your standard tropes/archetypes, but then you get to know them and... I said something on Twitter the other day, it's bizarre how the characters can seem so real and relatable in the midst of this utterly ridiculous premise full of superhero camp.

There is not a single character on the show, even the very minor supporting characters, that I would not be overjoyed to find out were getting a whole episode to themselves. Heck, there was a manga chapter all about Ben and Lloyds getting in a stupid fight and it was freaking hilarious and eventually sort of heartwarming.

You know, now that you mention it, you're right!

I know story-wise that Naruto isn't that great; but I think a lot of its popularity lies in the many characters and their back stories.

Maybe its because I got severely emotionally attached to a 3rd of the characters as a teenager and never really stopped liking them, but I liked Gaara as a character and getting to grow in his own way despite the childhood trauma and getting to bond with people when he's older.

Despite the decline in the later seasons, I really love a lot of the Supernatural characters. Not only the Boys, but so many of the supporting characters, particularly Ellen and Jo, Rowena and Jody and Donna, MEG, oh Meg, sixties Mary with her awesome flippy bangs and older Mary, too. Eileen, Lisa, Charlie....

Not to mention Bobby and Rufus and Castiel and Garth, the original Death, even John.

Not a perfect show, not perfect characters, but fun and funny and heartbreaking and amazing, all in their own time, all the same.

One Piece, hands down.

I've read some AMAZING Battle Star Galactica fic, and if I'm looking only at the first couple of seasons BSG has some of the most interesting characters.
