The AO3/FF secret from a little while ago was kinda imflammatory, but I think we would've avoided issues if people ignored it or talked about it minimally. Even I was being a bit snarky in the comments.

I was surprised that no one seemed to have figured out that when the OP mentioned FF.net having a superior way to filter fics, they were talking about tagging background ship/characters and story genres, which is a thing that FF.net has but AO3 doesn't.

Filtering by ships is where FFN shines even today. The genres are hit or miss. Alost everyting oes into Drama.

It is the constant conflation of hurt/comfort and romance which burns me. FF lets you tag two genres, but only exclude one. If you don't want woobie romances, you just can't stop them. It is still better than AO3's efforts in that arena, however.
