Ya know, I don't even mind that a lot of the other characters are mean to Meg--they're pretty assholish to everyone else, too--but the show itself treats her so badly. Like, she gets into bad situations and bad things happen to her outside of just being mistreated by her family...

I find it so hard to watch them make fun of her too. Besides the fact that sometimes she can be batshit insane (not really her fault though), Meg is a bit of a bigger version of me and it's horrifying to watch. I don't really know where this sudden hate for her character came from with the writers either. o_O

She's one of the few characters that is at all sympathetic in that show. I think that's one of the reasons I like Futurama better, all of the characters are butt monkeys but they have nice moments, too. (Well, plus, it's starting to feel like Family Guy is becoming more and more about preaching about the creator's opinions.)

I don't like it either, and it's a big part of the reason why I don't watch the show regularly anymore. I also don't like what it's done with other characters. Joe, for instance. Whatever happened to the guy in a wheelchair who was funny because he might as well not have been handicapped? He's too busy pooping his man-diaper. I don't even want to comment on the other characters in the show. Sometimes the show still makes me laugh, but most of he time I cringe.

I'm having a hard time taking this secret seriously. Maybe if Family Guy pretended to be anything but ridiculous, I might agree. As it were, it's just stupid comedy, slapstick humor, etc.

It made me uncomfortable because I looked almost exactly like her when I was her age.

The show in general kind of bothers me. I watch sometimes if it's the only thing that's on but generally, I take it as my cue to turn the TV off.

Though I find some parts of Family Guy funny - the show gets a real kick out of humiliating women, for real. I don't identify with Meg and I get that she gets bagged on because she whines about stupid teenage stuff, but there's a special brand of misogynistic degradation they bring out when it comes to her or any other female character. It kinda fucking sucks.

It bugs me too, and I'd love to see her turn around and be totally badass in the end. But it's gotten to the point where they're so over-the-top about it that, as with pretty much everything else they do, I don't take it seriously.

Also, I think their treatment of her and cruelty because of her weight is a commentary on society's fucked-up-edness as much as it is a joke.
