While I at least partially agree with you, I realised something odd tonight. There's not at all the same kind of discussion regarding people who fangirl and make excuses for Adrian, (ZOMG pretty!) even though his body count is a heck of a lot bigger.

Is it because sex offenses are considered worse than murder somehow?

I think it's because Adrian had good intentions (well, that was part of it, at least), which the Comedian tried to rape a woman because he wanted some and killed a woman pregnant with his own unborn child because she was inconvenient. Apart from that, I'd say rape/sexual assault is much more of a real possibility to people then being one target of a mass murder, so the Comedian's actions hit much closer to home.

Two good points.

I think the answer to this has to be a "yes". At least when it comes to portrayal in fiction. A lot of fiction is riddled with violence, and as a reader/viewer, we mostly just shrug it off. Hell, the heroes of numerous stories go around killing people. Sure, often, those people are the designated bad guys/antagonists, but you've got to ask yourself: does this make killing them OK?

And, going off on a slight tangent here, movie that shows people getting beat up or shot: PG or PG-13. Movie that shows people having consentual sex: R. Sex is MUCH more of a taboo than violence.

I'll wank about it here if that helps! The people who think that what Adrian did is perfectly a-okay without any qualifiers creep me the hell out. Lately, I see lots of "what a hero" raves about Adrian while everyone wanks endlessly about all the other characters. I've seen more moral criticism of Laurie! I love Adrian as a character, but I think that he could possibly be interpreted as a sociopath and, at the very least, there are issues and problems with what he did. Even if you ultimately agree with it (which certainly makes sense), just ignoring the possible problems with his solution seems odd (Dave Gibbons says what Ozy did was "evil" in his personal opinion, and I wouldn't go that far, but I don't think he's intended as the poster boy for morality either).

But it's the black and white thing again. People want to say Blake's all evil, Ozymandias is all good; Manhattan is just a poor woobie, while Rorschach is an awful person OR vice-versa with R the woobie and Dr. M the jerk; or gloss over Dan's flaws to make him into a dreamboat hunk instead of a flawed person struggling with impotency in many forms.

Haha, yes, that helps a bit. XD

I mean, I do sympathize with Adrian, and he's one of my favorite characters, but making the leap to "genocide can sometimes be OK" means you're either really callous or too dazzled by teh pretteh to think straight. (Look ma, I'm making sweeping generalisations on the Internet.)
