This makes a lot of sense to me. I think people with sensory processing issues, autism, and so on, often identify with the mutants, for a bunch of reasons.

When I was little I remember relating super hard to Zane from Lego Ninjago. For those of you who don't know about him he basically had this small arc in season one where he wonders why he acts so "differently" from his friends (not understanding jokes, doing random "strange" behaviors, not understanding boundaries. Basically, a few classic symptoms of autism.

And then a month later my mom told me that I was diagnosed with Aspergers when I was 4. lmao.
