It's very tired and over used, I agree with you OP.

Apparently a LOT of people who work with the dead do this, though. (Obviously they don't reply).

Yup, many mortuaries have mentioned they do speak with the dead body to make them "feel" their body is not being mistreated or giving them respect. I still remember I told to my father "good bye, dad and thank you for everything" in the morgue, and I knew he wouldn't reply me back, but it made me feel good that it was the last thing I told him while I could.

I actually love it when Dr. Mallard does this in NCIS. (And I don’t even really like the rest of that show.) I always found it endearing rather than cringe.

Is that a typical version among CSI shows?

I don't generally like it but I don't mind it when Mike from Brokenwood does it. Of course I like pretty well everything about Brokenwood.

Yeah, I don’t like it, either. If the writers think autopsy scenes need a monologue, have the coroner narrate the findings like Scully.

Yeah, I hate it too, at least with the tone it's usually done with--either "Look how deeply this person cares about the dead isn't that meaningful," or "Look they're quirky!"

I'd like it if they replied.

OK, mostly I'd like more Tru Calling.
