Animal woes

Babysitting my sister's dog for 10 days. Happy to do it. She's a sweetheart and sister is paying me 600. But said dog likes cat food. So my cat has to eat her food in my room, where the dog isn't allowed. And now my cat has decided she likes dog food. So she has to stay out of my parent's room, where the dog is going to sleep and eat.

Should be interesting.

Hahahahah.

I have run into this with my rabbits and cat. Usually rabbits aren't SUPPOSED to be interested in dog/cat food because they're built to be tiny little vegans, and meat products can mess them up. But sometimes they'll take an interest - and usually this isn't a problem because they have no bare paw pads on their furry little feet and slide around on smooth flooring, so generally all I have to do to keep cat food away from rabbits is put it somewhere that's uncarpeted.

But every now and then I wind up with a rabbit who doesn't care that they're skidding around the floor with their feet slipping out from under them with every step, and I have to take extra measures. :D

That's a really good rate she's paying you! But that's a pretty funny conundrum.

I met a cute little dog I'd love to adopt, and I think my mom would like her a lot as well. Very sweet dog. But our building doesn't allow pets :( and I think she's not over losing our dog during COVID. I still miss her a lot, and no other dog will replace her. I'd just like to have a dog. And then when I went by a pet store they were selling mini Aussies and Shiba Inu puppy (from a reputable breeder), and again, the building doesn't allow dogs and all I want is two dogs, a cat, a bird, a tortoise, and a fish. I'm also too broke to buy any dogs, that's not including the money to make sure the dog is taken care of (which you always find a way ya know?), But man. I really want a dog. :(

And no cats because I'm the only non allergic person in my family and I'd want them to visit when I move (I love cats though :( ).

I hope your life circumstances allow you to get a dog again. I went for about three months last year without having a dog, and it was not a good time for me.

(Also, I am SO sorry to be this asshole. But reputable breeders do not sell puppies to pet stores.)

AYRT

Thanks!

And you're not being an asshole -- thanks for informing me really. My first dog was a case of rehoming, and I've always wanted to make sure my next dog (mutt or breed whatever doesn't matter) was from a shelter or a similar case to my first dog. Buying dogs from stores is usually frowned upon (my mind jumps to mills, but the lady told me they were from a registered breeder, so who knows wtf -- wishful thinking on my part really). That poor little mini Aussie and Shiba Inu looked so sad :( and I've always wanted a miniature collie/shepherd sigh. If I ever find one in a shelter, I'm going to snatch it right up.

At least the dog I ran into was on a walk with her foster family. They shared her adoption page with me and then I ran into two other dogs I'd adopt from the same rescue agency. T.T

But thanks. Hopefully one day I'll live in a Place where I can have two or three dogs.

Ayrt.

No problem! Glad I did not come off as an asshole. I used to work in dog training and part of my job was helping people find ethical breeders and rescues.

Agree with this. Now that I have a cat, I don't know how I survived without a pet before. Having an animal companion is the best thing in this world.

Shiba Inu and Aussies are not good dogs to have in a building, either - they're both high energy and need space and a ton of exercise and enrichment. I hope you're in a situation where you get your dream pets one day!
