I think the fact that people are still so obsessed with her and hate her so much even after all these years is ludicrous. There have been a whole lot of big name fans who have done things so much worse than her. People should let it go.

I mean it's hard to watch someone you remember as a known plagiarist make it big as a writer, and harder still when they were even a bit of a bully. It's not that other people haven't done worse, but a lot of the people who did worse didn't also get mainstream success, the kind that comes with money.

I don't devote a lot of time to thinking about her in general, but when she comes up, my first thought is never 'oh, the writer of x series', it's ALWAYS 'oh, we were in some of the same fandoms back in the day and she was Not Great'.

This is how I feel about it. I don't dwell on her but when her name comes up, I just wind up being 'ugh, gross, that plagiarist'. I don't associate her with her published works at all, just her fandom stuff, and the drama she caused left an impression.

I don't think the plagiarism allegations were ever very well substantiated. She's continued being a bully though, and far more recently (rather than drama from 15 years ago), so that's what makes me still feel judgey towards her.

They were extremely well sustantiated, with exhaustive proof. I know; I was there. It's not "drama". She plagiarised a published author who was struggling with sales at the time, and actually did this person quantifiable damage. She then continuously threatened and tried to silence anyone who mentioned it.

A quick Google suggests otherwise? I mean. There are side by side text comparisons that look pretty damning and that's been the case for years now.

You need to do the research then, because they were very, very well substantiated. And she's a bully.

Eh. You're assuming that people are just fuming about her 24/7 for years without stopping - that'd be nuts, sure. But I think it's mostly that she was a plagiarist and a bully, that she never apologized for her actions and that makes her fandom infamous in a way that even if people haven't spared her a thought for years, they still recognize her name and remember who she is when it comes up again.

I am fascinated at the pettiness around her as someone who wasn't in the fandom. I hold a parasocial grudge/dislike for Justin Timberlake so I don't think I have any foot to stand on.
