I'm interested in "Wakanda Forever" purely due to being a Ryan Coogler fan (but OMG I want him to do non-franchise films soon) because, yeah, it just doesn't feel the same without Chadwick Boseman. I also have been burned out of superhero films since...maybe before one of the Avengers films? I only watch because my sister is really into them and it's something I can bond with her over. It takes me A LOT to find any interest in the films, they feel so meaningless.

ive grown super sick of marvel stuff, but im probably going to see this when it comes out just to see how it is. I have a feeling its just going to be mediocre, but not just because of laziness, but also because of the issues and reworking of the script writers had to do.

I feel like a fool. Like an absolute ignoramus. I keep going to these movies wanting desperately to have a good time and I am continually let down. Maybe this one will do it. I mean, it has Namor and pretty colors and I bet at least one thing will blow up real good AND YET.

(My real secret is I've completely missed the love for Chadwick Boseman. He played T'Challa in one complete disappointment of a movie, one movie I kind of liked and then EG/IW and then he was gone. Every early death is tragic but I never bonded with him as an actor. Like, fuck, I'm still more torn up over Raul Julia. You can imagine why my thought process of "Just recast him? He spends half his scenes under CGI anyway" would super not fly.)

I did think it was tasteless to advertise this through a dead man's twitter - like yikes scoob.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-17 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. So much same.

How would they replace Black Panther? There's nothing else like it in Marvel's catalog.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-17 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Namor but he's black now?

How does making Namor black replace the unique story of a black African nation that's never been colonized and becomes the most powerful country on Earth?

(Anonymous) 2022-08-17 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not a 1-to-1 but a specifically black Atlantis as a technologically hyperadvanced hidden ancient civilization has a lot of overlap imo

They own the rights to Blade now. He was in the credits scene from Eternals.

So, replace a story that features a predominantly black cast that takes place in a predominantly black country, with a story about a single black character that will likely happen somewhere that isn't unique or as inspiring as Wakanda.

That doesn't seem like a very fair trade-off to me.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-18 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
There will be other black characters available, too.

philstar22: (MCU: Nebula)

The thing is, Black Panther wasn't nearly my favorite character in his movie, even though I did love him. Okoye, Nakia, M'Baku, and Killmonger were my favorite characters. So I'm excited to at least get the first three back again. Even though we're not going to get T'Challa back, and that's sad, I'm really excited for the others.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-18 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Same here! I like T'Challa and I will miss him (and the RL reason is fucking tragic) but I loved all the other characters too, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-18 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
ditto, and ditto the anon above me. I love Black Panther mostly as a whole package, so while Chadwick and T'Challa missing will leave an obvious hole, I'm still showing up for the rest of Wakanda.

...and the amazing costumes, tbh.

Black Panther was good as an ensemble movie, so while I miss Chadwick, I love everyone else's characters too. I'm also excited for Riri *shrugs*

Man, I'd be happy with a Women of Wakanda film. That's literally all I wanted when I finished watching BP. I don't know how they're going to do it, but I'm likely going to give them my money.

obligatory "go to all your cancer screenings and listen to your body" comment.
rip.

Obviously secret, but...

(Anonymous) 2022-08-18 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
...if Black Panther had been made with a white cast, it would've been called the worst MCU film. The villain was as bland and boring as one could ever get, the CGI vs CGI "climax" was anything but exciting, and the plot was hardly new or inspired.

Boseman (and the rest of the cast) were absolutely wasted on this poorly-written placeholder of a movie.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-18 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
If it was a white cast, it would be nonsensical because it dealt deeply with racism that black people face.

This is probably the comment I disagree with more than any other I've seen in a while. Just no on every single account. The villain was one of the best of the MCU.
