That doesn't change the fact that the actress is very much gorgeous as well and not at all a case of "see, they totally didn't just cast young and beautiful women".

Character, not actress!

The character of Lucifer is not young and pretty. Christie is styled to be weird and androgynous. They did not play up her beauty, in the way that they played up Jenna Coleman's beauty. So you can't say "oh, they're unwilling to have female characters who aren't pretty and conventionally attractive" when they intentionally chose to style Christie that way.

The person they cast is still conventionally attractive. Which makes the decision to dress her up like a clown especially silly.
