What's your favorite animal that isn't commonly kept as a domestic pet (in your culture)?

Mine are owls.

Sheep.

People think sheep are boring, but they're not. They're like fluffy clouds of wool with cute snoofly noses. Sheep are awesome (and you shouldn't eat them).

I know someone who kept a variety of sheep called Racka, we called them the devil sheep because of their horns. They gave it up when all their original ewes aged out of breeding and they couldn't get a fresh tup though.

It’s a tie between black bears, otters, and raccoons. Oh and skunks! Skunks are awesome. I love adorable animals with complex social structures.

My stepdad is Colombian and he says they're quite common in Colombia and other countries in South America. Some people even eat them!

Orangutans. They’re so fascinatingly close to human and yet quite distinct. It seems like they have a lot of capacity for problem-solving, mimicry, and other “higher” cognitive functions that they don’t even necessarily need to use in their wild habitats. And the babies are just incredibly cute to me… the huge dark eyes, the expressive lips, the wire-y hair that sticks out.

Agree with octopus, bears, otters, raccoons, crows / ravens, and orangutans. I like smart little guys

Gibbons! Especially when they're swinging around real fast like. Also lemurs, red pandas, cheetahs, tree frogs, emus (they're hilarious), kookaburas, crocodile skinks (they look like baby dragons). Paradise birds. The Pikachu nudibranch!

I'd love a pet kakapo. I think they should be made celebrity pets in order to save the species. Think about it. Everytime a celeb gets a weird pet, the commercial and underground breeders solve breeding problems that have troubled real scientists for years within weeks. A year later the shelters are overflowing. New Zealand should give the Kardashians each a kakapo, and China should be handing out panda cubs to half of Hollywood. We'd be drowning in the bloody things by now.
