I was a DIEHARD He-Man & She-Ra fan way back then, and I was super disappointed with the movie, not because it was set on Earth but because they changed Teela's character so much. And then they did this whole thing where Skeletor was like Emperor Palpatine and with the big lightning and being thrown in a pit and everything. So stupid.

Wasn't the complaint not just about it being set on Earth but so much of it being about the Courtney Cox and Voyager Guy characters and not the He Man characters? Does it even go into any of He Man's mom's background?

Uh.

I can’t imagine that’s the main problem many people have with the movie, though I would assume it’s on the laundry list of complaints many have about it.

I liked the movie as a very cheesy ‘80s fantasy action movie (young Courtney Cox and Robert Duncan McNeill, Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella chewing up the scenery), but as a He-Man movie (or Masters of the Universe movie), it was really weird for it to be mostly centered on two Earth teenagers, with He-Man and Skeletor more as side characters. It’s like if they had had the first Superman movie be about two random teenagers on Krypton, with Superman and, like, General Zod, time-traveling to fight it out around them. It’s not a terrible framing device or anything, just a really strange choice for a first live-action feature film.

I'm just happy to see a He-Man movie secret, they filmed that in my hometown!
