Bond has a 20th century part of the elite Etonian vibe. His background as we see in Skyfall makes it clear he comes from landed gentry. That is not and has never been a diverse world, which is why there's a mismatch between the character and a POC actor.

Isn't it fiction, though? Isn't fiction meant to represent worlds we would like to see? Then... why not? Really, that sounds like a lame excuse next to every other possibility we are seeing represented ITT.

Sure. But that really only holds up when that fiction is going to explore the changes in the world, and that just isn't the point of James Bond. Presenting it without comment just comes across as cheap meaningless tokenism.

Not really, if well-done fiction like that could serve as an "imagine if" and spark up commentary and discussion. Again, not a Bond fan (maybe not British enough to appreciate it lol) my comment was merely based on other proposals (American Bond, female Bond etc).
