NAYRT Blatant troll. Just ignore them.

NA

I'm actually a little confused by this because Ireland is one of the British Isles, geographically. And since he's from Northern Ireland, which is legally part of the British Islands and the United Kingdom, doesn't he fall under the British umbrella, so to speak?

It depends, and is historically a matter of some dispute (Northern Ireland is riven by a long history of religious and ethnic strife, mostly between ethnically Irish, mostly Catholic nationalists and Protestant loyalists who are ethnically British, so someone from Northern Ireland may or may not describe themselves as British - and whether they do can be extremely politically charged).

But also, Pierce Brosnan isn't from Northern Ireland. He was born in Drogheda. He's just Irish.

Pierce Brosnan has both Irish and American citizenship, though oddly he has an OBE which I thought you had to be British to be given, but I guess not. (And he's not from Northern Ireland, he's from Ireland proper.)

Vasily Livanov got an honourary OBE for playing Sherlock Holmes, despite being Russian.

you can be given an obe (or cbe, or even kbe) and have the letters after your name, but you can't take any titles that might come with it without the citizenship

so terry wogan was just a kbe until he became a british citizen, at which point he was allowed to call himself sir terry
