How are the bunnies?

Btw didn't you use to have both bunnies and a dog at the same time? How did it work? Did you keep them in separate rooms or were you able to leave them together without fearing bloodshed?

Never lived with a dog - but when my ex still lived with me, at one point we had four cats and four rabbits. And while I know some cats have predatory instincts, and we were always careful introducing them... most often the cats were afraid of the rabbits, and the rabbits would chase them out of the room. :D

Now I've got four buns and one cat - who is the dumbest, most friendly and harmless cat you will ever meet. He's an idiot but I love him, and even my Boomer bun, who hated everyone, made friends with him. Not sure if I mentioned here (since the entire week or so after was a fog) that Boomer succumbed to cancer a couple months ago... not unexpected when 4 of the 5 I had at that time were somewhere over 8 years old. The remaining three seniors have been their usual bouncy selves, but my newest boy Milo had a stasis scare two weeks ago. Seven syringes of meds and supplements a day for awhile even though I caught it early, now we're down to four, and he's back to knocking things over in his determination to get to where the food container is kept. So I'm hopeful that the current treatment plan is either resolving or at least managing the issue that we thought was the underlying issue.

I'm so sorry for you loss - no, I didn't know.

I lost my 8 year old girl two years ago because of hairballs (she had to get surgery and she didn't make it) so I know how bad it can get.

I hope Milo's going to get better. I remembered you said something about GI stasis, which is why I asked. I always ask when you talk about your bunnies' health issues since I'm a bunny person and I know how fragile they can be. I'm always happy for you when they get better!

I'm glad your cat's friendly. I was wondering if you had any experience with cohabitation as I've just adopted a puppy and he's still barking at my poor bunny everytime I don't pay attention to him. They have to share a room, hence the issue, but they are separated by a lot of baby gates since I know the bunny tends to bite and attack when provoked - even when he's not tbh.

Aw, poor girl. I have been fortunate enough that none of the buns have needed surgery for blockages, just sometimes a whole lot of treatment... We feared liver torsion in Milo's case because his liver enzymes were weirdly high, but an ultrasound only showed enlarged bile ducts. But we don't know why, and a biopsy would have been rather invasive, so for that we started a regimen of antibiotics in case it was due to an infection, and a few OTC supplements. He bounced back quicker than I have ever seen a bun bounce back from such severe stasis, so something we did must have helped a lot. (I mean it COULD have just been the Cisapride and fluids, but...)

And yeah, that's got to be tricky with a dog and a rabbit. I've gotten the impression from various forums that it's easier if you introduce the rabbit to the dog when the dog is still a puppy, and they get the message as they're growing up that "this too is a member of the household, just like you." Though some dogs may have a strong predatory instinct regardless... so I'd be very wary of leaving them unsupervised. It's amusing that the BUNNY might be the more aggressive party - but if pushed far enough, I imagine even a good-natured dog might fight back. I wish I had some advice to offer, but I've been fortunate enough to only have shared bunny space with sweet/easily spooked cats so... really haven't had to "work" at cohabitation. :/
