it's so annoying when people act like that's the only correct interpretation of their relationship

What bugs me is that when people act like they're actual brothers, it's a complete fundamental misunderstanding of what sworn brotherhood actually is. The entire point of it is to give a close friendship the same social standing as a family bond. It's not the same thing as actually MAKING that person a family member.

Funny to me how Western culture actually has the concept of "in-law" relatives (those that are related to your romantic partner by blood) and yet people are freaking out because they're "brothers" (source: none! No canon source other than weird translations!)

Fandom would definitely freak out about a ship between in-laws, like if two people who are married to each other each have a sibling and those siblings get together.

They might, but these kids will be legally allowed to marry lol

I think it's hilarious when Americans (it's almost always Americans) come in with their "But Mondstadt is based on GERMANY and they don't have the sworn brother thing there so it doesn't count >:( "
Uh, I'm from Germany and we absolutely have a very similar concept - it's blood brothers/blood oath and is basically the same thing as Chinese sworn brotherhood, just with the added blood part.

+1

Marriage, on the other hand, actually DOES make your romantic partner a family member. All married sex is incest!
