My first instinct was to say older, provided the guy was still fairly fit and aging well. Late 50s doesn't seem out of the question (I'm mid-thirties). However, then I thought about him dying when I was like 60, and yeah, that's not something I would voluntarily bring upon myself.

If it was going to be a younger guy, though, he'd have to be very mature for his age. Which I realize is what sleazy people say to justify dating much younger people, but it's still true; I couldn't be into someone I was unable to connect with as a fellow adult. Also, committing to a much younger guy would be hard because no matter how much I trusted him not to cheat on me, I'd always feel insecure about my aging appearance, and worry that he would ultimately leave me for someone younger.

So really, I don't love either option. I think ideal, to me, would be someone who was somewhere between my age and, at most, ten years older than me.
