I imagine it'd be by Commissions.

Like, I want particular characters, in particular situations, etc. And sure, you can put in requests or asks of an author you like /if/ they're open to that and decide to choose your particular request, but that's versus I'm going to pay x amount for you to give me precisely what I'm asking for.

Also, i have seen fics where they out part of the fuc behind a paywall. I've dipped from those pics because it's not that deep.
